Inaugurated in September 1926, the Flèche d'Or (Golden Arrow) linked Paris-Nord to London-Victoria every day via Calais and Dover. This 1st class Pullman train exclusively consisted of lounge cars, recognizable to their chocolate and cream colors. The Canterbury ship was specially built, in 1929, for travelers on this train. The Flèche d'Or, pulled by a Pacific locomotive, was the fastest train at that time, with an average of 68 mi/h (110 km/h) over 180 mi (290 km) until Calais. Today, it is on display at the Cité du Train in Mulhouse.
