The golden age of railways
0
0
In 2005, the Cité du Train inaugurated a 6,000 m² hall dedicated to the golden century of the railways, from 1860 to 1940. The scenography designed by the architect François Seigneur allows visitors to discover a hundred or so locomotives, wagons, and carriages in action. Plunged into darkness, visitors wander between unique pieces punctuated by soundtracks and film extracts. Life-size rag dolls (creations of the artist Rebecca Campeau) are highlighted as the tour progresses. They evoke periods of splendour as well as misery, notably during the Second World War.
