Saint Basle was born in Limoges around 555, and led a reclusive life near Reims on a mountain opposite to the domain of Count Attila. One day, a boar hunted by the count found refuge at the feet of Saint Basle, and the dogs refused to attack. Convinced that he witnessed a miracle, the lord granted Saint Basle the mountain. Even today, the animals that take refuge there are not hunted. When Saint Basle died in 633, a small church was built in Bouzy but quickly became too small with the growth of the village. In 1851, one of its parishioners, Mr. Yvonnet, won the jackpot in a local lottery called the gold ingot.. He decided to donate it to build the current church on the ruins of the old one.
