White lions occurred in one place only on Earth. Endemic to the Timbavati and Kruger regions, at the heart of the UNESCO declared Kruger-to-Canyons Biosphere, the white lions are a genetic rarity of the Panthera leo species. Their conservation significance within this wildlife ecosystem is matched by their iconic cultural value in local communities, such as Tsonga ans Sepedi communities. The Global White Lion Protection Trust, founded by Linda Tucker in 2002, is involved in creating mutual benefits for lions, land and people.
