The glassmaker’s scissors

The glassmaker’s tools include scissors, the handles of which are far from the cutting part due to the heat of the glass. At the end of the blowing process, the glassmaker separates the hollow crystal form from the cane with the scissors. He also uses them to level the edge of the shape (here a stemmed glass). Another glassmaker shapes the stem separately, using two small parallel wooden boards, the “castanets” which can be tightened. Then the stem is added to the body of the glass. Once the glass is finished, it is placed in an annealing arch for several hours, which allows for gradual cooling.
