The Genoese tower of Capu di Muru, was built when Corsica was part of the Republic of Genoa. Not all the towers on the island are Genoese; some are paolines, others pisanes, but it is due to their architecture and simplicity that they are called “Genoese towers” in the everyday language. Built in stone, Genoese towers are mostly circular, to avoid barrel shots. Today there are about 85 Genoese towers.
