The ski resort of Mont-Dore, in the Puy-de-Dôme department, hosted the 98th French alpine skiing championships from March 26 to 28, 2011. An honor and a first time for the oldest resort in Auvergne, which organized the women's and men's slalom and giant slalom events on the slopes of Puy de Sancy. Gauthier de Tessières, a local competitor, became the resort's ambassador after his victory on the giant slalom. He gave his name to the GTD cup (Gauthier de Tessières Cup), a race that has become annual since December 2011.
