The fountain sitting in the center of Place d'Albertas was erected in 1862. Its metallic ornamentation, cast by the students of the School of Arts and Crafts of Aix-en-Provence, was added in 1912. The fountain has become a significant tourist asset particularly enhanced by its architectural surroundings that attract numerous visitors around its circular basin in summer. It was listed as a Historical Monument in July 2000 at the same time as the ground of Place d'Albertas as well as the facades and roofs of the buildings that border it.
