The Fort of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie

The Fort of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie is rich in history. Its location overlooking the village makes it an ideal place to avoid invasion. The first to have a castle built there was the Vicomte de Saint-Cirq, Oldoric, in the 10th century.
From the 13th century, the lordly families Lapopie, Gourdon, and Cardaillac shared the fort and established their castle there. The location of Lapopie's (on the rock) and Cardaillac's (below) are known today. On the other hand, that of the Gourdon has never been found.
