The former Jesuit college of Alençon moved in 1675 to Rue du Marché-aux-Porcs, which became Rue du Collège in 1772. It occupied the hotel bequeathed to them by the Archbishop of Narbonne, François Fouquet, the brother of the Superintendent of Finances of Louis XIV. After various assignments, its premises housed the Atelier national du Point d'Alençon (Point d'Alençon National Workshop) in 1976 and then the Musée des Beaux-Arts et de la Dentelle (Museum of Fine Arts and Lace) in 1981. The municipal library, the municipal archives, the auditorium, and the École Nationale de Musique (National School of Music) joined them in 1983, 1989, 1994, and 2001.
