The forests of the Chaîne des Puys

The Chaîne des Puys now has 1,023 acres (414 ha) of ancient forests and historic beech groves. While much of it is part of the basic beech-fir complex of the Massif Central mountains, many forest stands are sylvofacies, wooded areas shaped over the centuries to meet the successive needs of the populations. They mainly consist of beeches and oaks for firewood and firs for lumber.
