In 1952, Alfa Romeo released a racing car with a 1,997 cc engine of 158 hp derived from the Super Sprint. It was called the Disco Volante (Flying Saucer) because of its open-top spider body. The manufacturer produced only two other prototypes in 1953, one with a coupe body and the other in a spider intended for hill climbs. It is the latter that can be admired at the Cité de l'Automobile in Mulhouse, and it is also the only one out of the three models to have entered some competitions.
