The port of Le Havre occupies the north bank of the Seine estuary on the English Channel. It is the first French port for containers and second after Marseille's for overall traffic. Since the 2000s, it has grown to compete with the major ports of Northern Europe. The history of Le Havre has been marked by its working-class and maritime tradition.
