The first French nuclear submarine
0
0
The first French nuclear submarine, the Redoutable was built by the Arsenal de Cherbourg. Since July 2000, it joined the attractions of La Cité de la Mer by being put in dry dock at the Cherbourg ferry terminal. Today, it has become the largest visitable nuclear submarine in the world. Its last trip took place on July 4, 2000, under the eyes of many Cherbourg residents. The delicate manoeuvre to bring this 393-feet-long machine (128 m) into the port took more than two and a half hours, supervised by former submariners.
