The stables of the Haras National du Pin were built first, well before the castle intended as the official residence of the directors of the stud farm. Added according to the needs, the stables bear the number of their order of construction, their function (Écurie de la Jumenterie), or their location (Écurie du Bois). Intended for large stallions, stable No. 2 (photo) was divided into boxes displaying the name of the stallion, the names of its father, its mother, and its second father (maternal grandfather) as well as the year of birth of the horse, and the surname of the breeder (first owner of the horse). Such data allow determining as precisely as possible the horse's origins and the prestige of its lineage.
