The farms of Hunchbacked Alsace

The territory of hunchbacked Alsace is a well-preserved part of the region. Its numerous hills rise from the Northern Vosges to the Lorraine plateau. There, farms are built from sandstone or limestone and differ from the half-timbered panels of the cities' houses. The roofs often go down on one side of the habitation to host a hay or wood barn. The farms are low and elongated and often align along a single street in the village. Small courtyards are held on the wide sidewalks and allow social interactions between the inhabitants.
