The facades of Place Ducale

The Place Ducale of Charleville is the heart of the city. Its buildings, initiated in 1606, extend over the 416 ft long (127 m) and 295 ft wide rectangle (90 m). The oeil-de-boeuf windows alternate with attics along the sloping roofs covered with slate. The yellow local stone from Dom-le-Mesnil surrounds the red bricks on the buildings' facades pierced with arcades protecting numerous shops as they already did during the Renaissance.
