The evolution of sleds
0
0
Dog sleds have evolved over time and with use. They went from the ‘qamutik’, the heavy sled designed by the Inuits to carry important loads over rough terrain, to the flat-bottomed toboggan for transporting over deep snow. The Europeans conceived basket models, raised and mounted on two narrow rails, for transport on packed snow tracks. These models were shortened and modified by the mushers to adapt them to racing.
