The Estaillades quarry is one of the largest open-cast freestone quarries in Europe. It is operated on the territory of the municipality of Oppède in the Vaucluse department and is located on the north face of the Luberon mountain about six miles (ten kilometers) east of Cavaillon. The Estaillades stone is a white limestone sedimentary rock easy to cut and sculpt and resistant to temperature variations. It was commonly used in villages of the Luberon region such as Gordes, Lacoste, or Bonnieux.
