The equestrian statue of La Fayette
1
0
The Cours la Reine starts at the Place de la Concorde and ends in front of the Pont des Invalides. The alley is bordered to the south by the Seine and to the north by the Champs-Elysées gardens, the Petit and Grand Palais. Several equestrian statues line its paths. The one of General La Fayette (photo) was given to France by an American in gratitude for the Statue of Liberty. Commissioned from the sculptor Paul Wayland Bartlett for the 1900 World Fair, it was a plaster copy that was inaugurated. The bronze original was completed in 1908. Previously located in the Cour Carrée of the Louvre, it was moved to the Cours la Reine in 1985.
