The Place Vendôme is 213 metres long and 124 metres wide. It is located at the convergence point of two wide axes, to the north the Rue de la Paix, which connects to the Place de l’Opéra, and to the south the Rue de Castiglione, which connects to the Rue de Rivoli and the Tuileries Gardens. In the centre of the square, the Vendôme column, inspired by the Trajan column in Rome, commemorates the Napoleonic epic of the Austerlitz campaign over 200 metres of bas-reliefs. Today a jewellery mecca and the seat of the Ministry of Justice (at number 13), the Place Vendôme has been the epicentre of Parisian elegance since the end of the 19th century.
