The emergence of the imago
0
0
Before reaching the imago stage, the nymphoid larva of the cicada leaves its underground life and clings to a low plant support with the hairs of its legs. Its last molt, the imaginal molt allowing the emergence of a so-called perfect adult or imago, usually occurs at night to escape predators. As soon as its wings and exoskeleton have dried, the cicada flies off in search of food, and, stimulated by the heat, the male starts its first cymbalizations to attract a female and mate. Only its exuvia (photo) later testifies to its passage.
