In Burgundy, as elsewhere, the canals are - beyond their landscape value - of great ecological interest. Even if they cannot replace wild watercourses in terms of naturalness and if their waters, often turbid and calmer, are poorer in heritage species, they contribute in particular to reducing the landscape and environmental impacts of roads and road transport.
