The Dupuy de Lôme airship consists of an elongated balloon fitted at the rear with a rudder. It is made of silk taffeta lined with nansouk (a very tight fabric used for quilts), between which seven layers of rubber are glued. The oblong basket is made of wooden upright, woven rattan, ropes, and leather. In 1912, the Dupuy de Lôme's name was given to a new, larger airship equipped with two engines. Unfortunately, the French army mistook it for a Zeppelin in the dark and shot it down in 1914.
