The Downstairs Factory Heaven

Mentioned as early as 1264, the ‘Usine du bas’ (Downstairs Factory) in Dommartin-le-Franc (Haute-Marne) closed its doors in 1992. The buildings and machines were bought by the ASPM (association for the preservation of the metallurgical heritage of Haute-Marne), which transformed the metallurgical factory into a Conservatoire des arts de la métallurgie (Conservatory for the Arts of Metallurgy). Among the collections presented, the ‘models of Heaven’ is undoubtedly the most unexpected. Within an old hall, more than 650 artistic models are lined up on three levels: works in plaster, cast iron or terracotta, in all sizes, religious or secular.
