The differential erosion of fairy chimneys
0
0
In some valleys of the Massif des Ocres, reliefs resulting from differential erosion, such as fairy chimneys, can be observed. They comprise a waterproof and resistant top cap that prevents the dissolution of the cement of the underlying sandstones. This same phenomenon of differential erosion is also visible on the sand slopes and at the foot of the cliffs on a smaller scale, sometimes with plant or mineral fragments capping small fairy chimneys.
