2.17 miles (3.5 km) from the locality of Nasbinals in the Lozère department, the Déroc waterfall is a natural attraction in the region. As the economy of the village of 509 inhabitants is based primarily on breeding and tourism, the cascade and its basalt cave are a real asset to the surroundings. The Déroc waterfall conceals a cave with a ceiling made up of large basalt prisms. This geological treasure that possibly served as a refuge for highwaymen was discovered by Doctor Prunière.
