The 4,921mi (7,920km) of the Corsican road network have been massively widened and tarred over the last twenty years. However, there are still narrow and winding roads. If the maximum speed allowed out of town is 56mi/h (90km/h), the average speed is rather around 24.8 to 31mi/h (40 to 50km/h). As for the car density, it amounts to more than seven vehicles per ten inhabitants because of the poor public transport network.
