In 1098, the monks of Cîteaux, who were already cultivating the vines, decided to build farm buildings in Vougeot to meet the needs of their vast estate. Among the buildings built at the time, a winery can still be seen in which 4 oak presses are stored. A large storeroom was also built. It could contain no less than 2000 barrels each containing 220 liters of wine. In 1551, the 48th abbot of Cîteaux, Dom Loisier, had a Renaissance mansion built for him in the domain.
