From the top of Mont Sainte-Odile, the Abbey of Hohenbourg overlooks the entire Alsace plain. The spire of Strasbourg Cathedral is visible from there. From the village of Ottrott, a shell of Saint-James of Compostela, encrusted on the ground, indicates the path towards the Mount Saint Odile to the pilgrims. It winds for 10,5 mi (7 km) and passes through the ruins of Ottrott Castle with a vertical drop of 1,739 ft (530 m). The Monastery of Sainte Odile remains a high place of pilgrimage nowadays.
