The codification of Camargue races
0
0
In the 18th century, the villagers of Camargue only entertained themselves with bulls in a private setting, in the Provençal farmhouses. The first bullfighting games appeared in the 19th century. Back then, everyone could participate in the races, organized in public places or in improvised arenas with carts. Camargue races have been gradually codified throughout their existence, with the appearance of the white costume for the raseteurs and precise rules. Today, they take place in arenas built for this activity or in the amphitheaters of Nîmes and Arles. Only professionals, raseteurs and turners, are allowed to enter the arena to catch the bull's attributes, which are hung around its horns and on its head.
