Raivavae is at the core of the Austral archipelago, a set of islands situated near the Tropic of Capricorn. Its northerly position explains why climate can be fresher than in the rest of Polynesia. On the island, the temperature can be as low as 15°C during the Austral winter. Rains are also more frequent.
