The Chapel of tears

The Chapel of tears of Mont Sainte-Odile was built on the old Merovingian cemetery of the monastery. According to legend, Odile cried and prayed on her father's grave. A gate marks the spot hollowed out by her tears where the Saint was kneeling. The chapel's mosaics were made by Alphonse Gentil and Eugène Bourdet in 1935. They represent the tomb as a passage to light. The saints who welcome the deceased lead him to Christ. The stone altar is dedicated to Sainte Eugenie, the niece of Saint Odile and the second abbess of Hohenbourg.
