The castle of the Haras National du Pin was built between 1719 and 1724 according to the plans of Robert de Cotte, the first architect to the Sun King. Its construction would, therefore, be posterior to that of the large stables that, from 1717, housed the herd of two hundred horses from Louis XIV's personal stud farm in Saint-Léger-en-Yvelines, near Saint-Germain-en-Laye. This castle has long served as the official residence of the successive directors of the stud farm.
