Since 2018, Clécy, nestled on the banks of the Orne, has been labeled Village of Calvados character. The Gallo-Romans called it Cliciaccus. A villa governed 12 agricultural estates that became 12 seigneuries in the 10th and 11th centuries. Clécy developed in the 16th century and was renowned for its market. The Orne generated activities linked to ferries, fisheries, and later mills and spinning mills in the 19th century. The 20th century emphasized tourism, and Clécy was nicknamed capital of Norman Switzerland in 1932. The Hardy Museum on Place du Tripot pays tribute to the local painter André Hardy (1887-1986), who highlighted the landscapes of the region.
