The Calanques National Park
Created in 2012 in the municipalities of Marseille, Cassis, and La Ciotat in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, the Calanques National Park is the first suburban national park both terrestrial and maritime in Europe. It extends in its terrestrial part over 52.8 sq. mi. (85 km²) of a coastal massif made up of white rock cliffs (Urgonian limestone), pudding (consolidated detrital sedimentary rocks), coves and islets, and over 270.2 sq. mi (435 km²) of maritime areas.
