A two-seater and extended version of the type XI, the Blériot XI-2 has a landing gear based on bicycle wheels and a small tail wheel. Its Gnome engine of 50 to 70 hp was more powerful than that of the XI and allowed it to reach a speed of 71.5 mph (115 km/h). The Blériot XI-2 was produced in series from 1912 and was ordered by France, Great Britain and Italy. At the beginning of the First World War, it was one of the most common aircraft in Allied squadrons. It carried out reconnaissance and observation missions for the artillery and cavalry.
