The bell tower of turmoil of l'Oultet
0
0
Located on Mount Lozère, the locality of ‘l'Oultet’ is part of the commune of Saint-Julien-du-Tournel. At the heart of this hamlet is the bell tower of turmoil. It is a Lozerian construction typical of the architecture of these areas devoid of churches. The ‘turmoil’ refers to a formidable storm that originates at a high altitude during winter in the region. As it intensifies, it makes strong winds and snowfall combine. The bells used to be activated as a sound landmark for travelers lost in the fog.
