Gateway to the town of Besse, the belfry was built in the 15th century at the same time as the town's ramparts. The belfry gate is the only one that remains of the original three gates that allowed goods and people to enter or leave the city. Built on a square plan, the belfry was raised at the end of the 16th century by an eight-sided turret topped with a bell tower and equipped with a barbican pierced with four fire canon openings.
