Listed as a historic monument since 1905, the Belfry Gate is the only one that remains of the three gates that allowed people to enter and leave the fortified town of Besse en Chandesse. Built on a square plan, the gate has two parallel arcades on the ground floor, linked laterally by solid walls. The upper part of the curtain wall, accessible by a staircase on the South façade, is surmounted by a walkway whose parapets have been moved back in the 16th century on three sides of the building.
