The bay from the abbey church
The higher you climb the towers of the abbey church of Mont-Saint-Michel, the more you discover the immensity of the bay. Low tide reinforces this impression and the abbey becomes like a lighthouse resisting all storms. Seen from the coast, the bay looks like a vast flat expanse. But it is an illusion! Three coastal rivers – the Sée, the Sélune, and the Couesnon – wander through it, carving out new channels every day that isolate the sandbanks. In the distance, the polders alternate between high undulating grass and pools of shining water.
