The Citadel of Bastia, formerly known as the Bastiglia (la Bastille), was built in 1380 by the Genoese governor Leonelli Lomellini on a rocky promontory of Terra-Vecchia (old land) as opposed to Terra Nova which designates the new neighborhoods. This closed citadel contains all the history of the city of which it is at the origin.
