In winter, the dairy cows of La Grange de la Haute Vallée farm in Cantal stay in the barn and benefit from a hay-based diet. Hay is fodder, meaning that it consists of a mixture of mown, dried, and preserved plants intended for the feeding of farmed herbivorous animals. Hay is used when grazing in natural meadows is not possible, usually in winter or drought periods.
