The baroquization of the Lascaris Palace

Built in the 15th century, the Lascaris Palace of Castellar in the Alpes-Maritimes department was adapted to Baroque style at the end of the 17th century. For the occasion, the edifice was embellished with a porched tower that provided access to the monumental staircase leading to the noble floors. This tower, covered by a dome of polychrome glazed tiles and topped with a lantern, has become the most identifiable emblem of the Lascaris Palace. The remaining part of the monument no longer houses elements anterior to the 17th century, the palace having been partially destroyed by the earthquake of 1564.
