The Balconies of the Mediterranean

The GR 51 long-distance hiking trail is nicknamed Balconies of the Mediterranean. It crosses the departments of Alpes-Maritimes, Var, and Bouches-du-Rhône from east to west from Menton to Marseille over 315 mi (508 km) in a permanent dialogue between sea and mountain. From the Italian border to the Var valley, the trail allows discovering the heritages of renowned hilltop villages of the Alpes-Maritimes such as Sainte-Agnès, Gorbio, and Castellar. Hikers can also witness fiery torrents and enjoy multiple panoramas on the Mediterranean.
