The location of the Alexandre III bridge was chosen because of its proximity to the Grand Palais and the Esplanade des Invalides. The monument is gilded with gold leaves on all sides. Its four columns, also surmounted by gilded statues, underline the axis of the bridge that points to the flamboyant dome of the Invalides. The search for perspective caused many worries to the builders, especially since the single arch had to be high enough to let barges pass.
