To facilitate the pilgrims' ascent to the chapel of Notre-Dame de Beauvoir and to maintain this very frequented passage, a staircase paved with pebbles originally counting as many steps as there are days in a year had been installed. In 1873, the religious community of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie built a stone bridge, visible on this photo, to replace the wooden footbridge that led to the chapel. The stones came from a collapsed cave above the chapel and the village faience makers supplied the lime. The sale of the Virgin's jewelry made it possible to finance the remaining costs.
