The aristocratic lace par excellence
1
0
The creation of a lace factory of royal privilege in Alençon in 1665 allowed the introduction of Alençon lace to the royal court of Louis XIV, King of France and Navarre from 1643 to 1715. This needlepoint lace became the favorite of his successor King Louis XV who reigned from 1715 to 1774 and nicknamed it winter lace because of its density. Until the First World War, Alençon lace remained the aristocratic lace par excellence present in every princely trousseau and imitated elsewhere in Europe.
