The architect and the devil

A legend tells that the architect Pierre Perrat lacked inspiration during the development of the vaults of the Cathedral of Metz. A man, possibly the devil, would then have drawn them for him in exchange for his soul. When Perrat died, someone presented himself to honor the deal but could not get anything. The architect had, indeed, begged to be buried under a side aisle of the cathedral, as evidenced by an inscription. Nowadays, strange unexplained drafts sometimes run through the bays of the monument. Some say it is the devil seeking the soul of Pierre Perrat.
