The ancestral practice of hitching

The practice of driving in national stud farms - like here at the Haras National du Pin in the Orne department - goes back to the very creation of the institution in 1665 under Colbert. The only means of land transport of the time, horse-drawn carriages were essential working tools that met the internal needs of the stud farms and were used for the selection and exercise of the many horses intended to pull them. The cars currently preserved correspond to the last purchase campaigns of the administration during the second half of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries. Most of them are kept in working order and regularly harnessed to national stallions during equestrian events.
